Gianna

đź“Ť Hometown: Fort Worth, TX

🎓 Year: Junior, Class of 2026

đź“š Major: Corporate Communications

Why did you choose Corporate Communications? - "I chose to major in Corporate Communications because it perfectly aligns with my deep passion for understanding how people connect and share their ideas. From a young age, I was drawn to public speaking and found so much joy in developing a message and sharing it with others. One of the most memorable moments of that journey was being honored as both a TEDx Youth speaker and mentor, which opened my eyes to the immense power of communication to inspire and influence. When I first came to  UT, I was studying Government, but something didn’t quite feel right. I felt disconnected from the coursework, so I decided to take a communications class on a whim. After just a few days of class, I knew I had found my true calling. I applied to transfer into the Corporate Communication program, and it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made. "

What’s your favorite Moody class you have taken? - "My favorite Moody class so far has been Interviewing Principles and Practices. I think that everyone at UT could benefit from taking this class! It taught me invaluable skills like conducting interviews, excelling as an interviewee, cold calling, networking, optimizing my LinkedIn, and writing strong cover letters. The highlight of this class was our main project, where we had to find and interview three professionals in the field we aspire to work in. Using HookedIn and LinkedIn, I was able to connect with three professionals in Pharmaceutical Sales. This experience not only gave me a better understanding of the industry but also how to network and conduct an effective interview. It was one of the most practical and beneficial educational experiences I’ve had at UT, which will 100% help me throughout the rest of my career as a student and in my professional life."

What are you involved in on and off campus? - "On campus: I am very involved in Texas Hillel where I serve as the VP of hospitality on the student executive cabinet. Through Hillel, I am a part of a run club and several committees. I used to play club field hockey, but have been out because of an injury, but want to go back to my team! Off-campus: I teach Sunday School, serve as the Territory Manager for a small startup, and volunteer with Camp Impact—a nonprofit supporting homeless children. I'm also pursuing my real estate license and actively exploring internship opportunities to further develop my skills and career. "

What inspired you to get involved with LPH (Lambda Pi Eta)? - "I was inspired to get involved with Lambda Pi Eta because its mission aligns so closely with my own goals and passions as a communication major. From the moment I switched to Moody, I’ve been eager to explore every opportunity to deepen my understanding and connect with others who share my enthusiasm for the study of communication. I was especially drawn to the way Lambda Pi Eta fosters meaningful connections between students and faculty. The organization’s commitment to professional development and academic excellence resonates with my desire to continuously grow, both in and out of the classroom. I’m super excited to serve as president and get to work with our amazing new board and members to grow our community at UT. "

What has been the most rewarding experience during your time at UT so far? - "The opportunities here have truly been limitless, and what I’ve appreciated most is the freedom to explore my interests. Over the summer, I had the incredible experience of completing the McCombs Summer Entrepreneurship Academy, where our coursework was to essentially build a company from the ground up. One of the main objectives was to learn how to pitch effectively, which I loved thanks to the strong foundation that my major-specific classes have provided. Also, I just met the most amazing and creative people from all different majors and backgrounds, which really enhanced our project since we all had different perspectives, expertise, and ideas to contribute."

What skills or lessons have you gained from your major that you’re excited to use in your career? - "My public speaking and persuasion skills! Public speaking is something that just started out as a hobby, but through my classes, I’ve learned how to take it to the next level. It’s been amazing to see the progression and growth of my comfort with public speaking throughout the past few years from all of my classes. Additionally, studying persuasion will definitely be used in my career. My classes have shown me how to influence others in an ethical and thoughtful way through body language and crafted speech. I’ve learned that it’s not just about getting someone to say “yes” but its about building trust and understanding!"

Where would you love to travel to next? - "My next travels will be during my Maymester in Rome, Florence, and Reggio Emilia where I will be studying Italian Approaches to Early Childhood Education!"
