In 2024, the Communication Studies (CMS) department celebrates its 125th anniversary. Founded in 1899, we are the oldest department in what is today the Moody College of Communication. Just as we filled a unique need for the university community all those years ago, we continue to prepare students to become expert communicators in the complex communication environment of today.
Today, the Communication Studies Department has over 700 undergraduate majors and minors, 70+ traditional graduate students and several Option III programs/certificates, and over 30 full-time teaching faculty. Our undergraduate majors choose one of five tracks to focus their studies on corporate, political, human relations, global and intercultural, or strategic and risk communication. They work in a wide variety of large corporations as well as in government, nonprofit, and small business.
