UT Debate: Campaign

Texas Debate Excellence Fund

Texas Debate seeks a $2 million endowment designed to fund The University of Texas at Austin debate team in perpetuity.  Support for this campaign will ensure that Texas Debate has the resources to grow and thrive.

Students benefit from the debate program in many ways, including:

  • Student participation in debate competitions supplements classroom learning and broadens student academic horizons.
  • UT debate attracts the best and the brightest students from across the nation, ensuring they call Austin home.
  • The tradition of UT debate has helped produce leaders, at the highest levels of law, education, energy, finance, internet technology, and across the spectrum of industries, who are willing to identify and tackle the toughest issues of the day.  There is no substitute for training in debate.

The consistent success of the Texas Debate, at the highest levels of competitive success, contributes to the University’s prestige and reputation versus other top tier academic programs.  UT debate success in the most competitive post-graduate programs in the country is undeniable.

UT debate positively impacts the academic culture of Texas, especially for those communities most in need of educational support, including active support of Urban Debate Leagues (UDLs), outreach to non-native English speakers, and summer programming for thousands of high school and middle school students each year.  Numerous studies have proven that participation in academic debate statistically improves student academic and professional success.
