Student Spotlight: Ahiri Chakraborty
Meet Ahiri Chakraborty
Graduate Student, Communication Studies (CMS)
Pronouns: She/Her | Hometown: Kolkata, India | Expected Graduation: 2026
Ahiri Chakraborty came to UT Austin from Kolkata, India, drawn by the energy of the city and the strong academic environment of the Moody College. As a graduate student in the Communication Studies department, she’s passionate about exploring how communication shapes organizations and relationships.
“I chose CMS because UT has a dynamic and robust ecosystem that fosters growth for all kinds of students,” she shares. “I wanted to study in a space that’s both intellectually stimulating and creatively inspiring.”
A Standout Class
While her focus is organizational communication, one of Ahiri’s favorite courses so far has been Interpersonal Communication Theory. “It helped me see how personal dynamics translate into workplace communication—something that will definitely help me in my career.”
Austin Favorites
When she’s not studying, you can find Ahiri outdoors. She loves going for walks or runs at Zilker Park, visiting Mount Bonnell and Pennybacker Bridge, and trying local spots like Salty Sow, Snooze, and Aba.
Dream Destination
A nature-lover at heart, Ahiri hopes her next adventure takes her to Seattle—“It looks so beautiful in pictures, and there are so many national parks I want to explore!”
