National Team Awards

The University of Texas began participation in organized oratorical and reading contests in 1883. The forensics programs were part of various national style contests from 1913, with attendance at the DSR national conferences, as well as entry at some PKD contests. Texas Speech was founded as a separate sub-program in 1988 and first attended the American Forensic Association's National Speech Tournament (formerly the NIET) in 1989, with subsequent participation in the National Forensic Association's national tournament beginning in 2004.
