Hurtful Communication Study
The purpose of this study is to compare face-to-face and mediated hurtful communication. If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to complete an online questionnaire. Total estimated time to participate in this study is approximately 30 minutes. You will receive extra credit points toward your grade in one of your CMS classes (at the instructor’s discretion), or you may complete the departmental alternative for research credit. If you have questions about the exact amount of extra credit you will earn, please contact your instructor prior to completing the survey. Weight Management Messages
You are being asked to participate in a research study. The purpose of this research is to understand the effectiveness of messages from significant others about weight management. Participation involves completing a 30-minute on-line survey. If you wish to complete an alternative to participating in research to receive extra credit, please contact the researcher (contact information is below).
For your participation, you will receive extra credit for one CMS course. Your instructor will determine the amount of extra credit. If you have questions about the exact amount of extra credit you will earn, please contact your instructor prior to completing the survey.
Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible. And if you completed a similar survey earlier this semester, you are still eligible to complete this survey.
Approximately 300 people are needed for this study. The study will close once 300 people have participated or on December 4th at 5pm, whichever comes first.

Virtual Communication Experiment
Are you interested in getting extra credit for your CMS class? If so please sign up for our experiment! We're looking at how people interact in virtual environments (e.g., Second Life). We need both male and female participants.
Before you sign up, please make sure your instructor is granting extra credit in your class.
We have separate sign up lists for males and females in the 7th floor of CMA. Sign up lists are available in the 7th floor of CMA, in a bulletin board close to the main office of the Department of Communication Studies. The experiment lasts about an hour. We meet in CMA 5.134b the day of the experiment.
Available times: Tuesdays 12:15-5. Thursdays 1:30-5 and Fridays 11:30-3. Please sign up with two days of anticipation.

College Life and FaceBook at UT
The purpose of this study is to understand college life and the use of social network sites, such as Facebook. Even if you do NOT have a Facebook account, you can participate in this study. There are questions about your college life in general. Please note, participation in this research project may be approved for extra credit by your instructor in certain Communication Studies courses. Communication Studies students must fill out the College of Communication application in order to be considered for department scholarships as well.

CCS provides Career Development and Job Search Assistance to Students and Alumni of The University of Texas at Austin College of Communication.
The Instructional Media Center
The IMC provides editing, viewing, and listening capabilities for use in research and classroom activities. Faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students currently enrolled in College of Communication courses may check out audio/visual equipment and duplicate tapes. The IMC houses an archive of over 2,000 video and audio tapes with many famous speeches, and a conversation library consisting of approximately 200 hours of interpersonal interactions.
Conflict Mediation
Students who need assistance resolving a conflict (say, with a roommate) can go to mediation and perhaps receive extra credit in say their 306M class.
