Milestones:
• The team set a school record this year with 10 national finalists.
• With her 3rd and 4th national event titles, Stephanie Cagniart matched Matthew Whitley as the all-time leader in event championships at the University of Texas.
• The championship in Impromptu Speaking is UT’s 4th, making UT the all-time leader in that category.
• The UT Speech Team has now won 24 individual national titles in only its 18th year of existence, making UT the second winningest program in the history of the American Forensic Association, behind onlyBradley University.
• 4 of the top five programs in the countrywere coached in part by UT Speech alumni. Tournament champion Western Kentucky University is coached by Bonny McDonald and Graduate Assistant Ben Robin; the University of Alabama is coached by doctoral student Nance Riffe; Illinois State University is coached by Graduate Assistant Kristyn Meyer. Additionally, George Mason University, who placed 9th, is coached by UT alumni Peter Pober, Casey Garcia, and Jimmy Ficaro.
