BA Degree:
Slavic & East European Studies, University of Connecticut, Storrs
MA Degree: Slavic Languages, University of Texas at Austin
Current research interests:
I explore issues at the intersection of globalization, popular culture, and cultural borrowing, with attention to Russian language and culture. Other interests include Marxism and social change, multimodality and embodiment in communication, and the ethos and performance of social identity. My work makes use of a variety of perspectives, including historical materialism and critical cultural studies, and of a variety of methods, from rhetorical criticism to the close analysis of texts and instances of human interaction.
Outside hobbies & interests:
I am involved in social justice activism, including the fight against the death penalty in Texas and nationwide. In rare moments of spare time, I enjoy keeping company with family and friends, traveling (especially road trips), and talking with strangers.
What you think makes UT or Austin unique, cool, or "weird":
Whatever one's particular schtick - politics, music, canned meat - boredom is rare 'round here.
