Dr. Scott R. Stroud (Ph.D., Temple University, 2006) specializes in rhetoric and philosophy. His current research explores the resources provided by the American pragmatists to our understanding of criticism, art, communication, and democracy. His interest in pragmatism and comparative philosophy has motivated related projects at the intersection of eastern philosophy and rhetoric. One such venture has been his extension of narrative theory through an engagement with ancient Indian philosophical texts. His article in the Southern Communication Journal, “Ontological Orientation and the Practice of Rhetoric: A Perspective from the Bhagavad Gita,” was nominated for the Rose B. Johnson Article Award. Additionally, he has published on narrative rhetoric, pragmatist aesthetics, speech act theory, and other topics in Philosophy & Rhetoric, the Journal of Communication and Religion, the Western Journal of Communication, and the Southern Journal of Philosophy.
