Dr. Scott R. Stroud (Ph.D., Temple University, 2006) specializes in American pragmatism and aesthetics. His current research concerns John Dewey's aesthetic theory and the insights it provides with respect to art, communication, and democracy. His interest in pragmatism and comparative philosophy has motivated related projects at the intersection of eastern philosophy and rhetoric. One such venture has been his extension of narrative theory through a constructive engagement with ancient Indian philosophical texts. His recent article in the Southern Communication Journal, "Ontological Orientation and the Practice of Rhetoric: A Perspective from the Bhagavad Gita," has been nominated for the 2006 Rose B. Johnson Article Award. Additionally, he has published on narrative, pragmatist aesthetics, speech act theory, and other topics in Philosophy & Rhetoric, the Journal of Communication and Religion, the Western Journal of Communication, and the Southern Journal of Philosophy.
